My Choice range of funeral plans allow you and your family to choose the funeral plan you need and can afford. We offer a range of meaningful benefits to suit you and your family’s specific needs. My Choice range of funeral plans offer cover up to R60 000. Anyone between the ages of 18 and 64 can take up a product from the My Choice range of funeral plans. The maximum age of entry is 74 years on the Sanlam Traditional Funeral Plan. What's more, we give you cash back every three years. Benefits and features offered  Did you know? COMPULSORY BENEFITS • Funeral Cover: if the principal life assured dies, this benefit pays out the funeral cover amount including escalations. • Double Accident Benefit:  if the principal life assured dies as a result of an accident, this benefit will pay out an amount equal to the chosen funeral cover in addition to the funeral cover. • Savings Benefit: this benefit gets paid out at the end of the chosen policy term, which is the same term as the Funeral Cover. The compulsory monthly Savings Benefit premium is R25 and is already included in the total monthly premium. At the end of the policy term, the total sum guaranteed to be paid out will not be less than the total of the premiums paid over the saving term less allocation charges, as long as no changes have been made to the Savings Benefit. There is a top up option for the compulsory monthly Savings Benefit called the Additional Savings Benefit. This allows the savings premium to be increased in units of R10. What if the saved money is needed before the end of the policy term? There is an option to cancel the policy at any time and not pay any penalties but there is a small administration fee. This means if the Savings Benefit is surrendered, the funeral cover also must be cancelled. Cash withdrawals can be made from the savings, but this will affect the total money due at the end of the policy term. AUTOMATICALLY ADDED BENEFITS • Burial Repatriation Benefit: All lives assured Repatriation of the deceased’s body Transportation arrangements for one person who is accompanying the deceased’s body to the nearest funeral home of choice closest to the place of burial Accommodation for a maximum of one night for one person travelling with the deceased’s body Legal assistance regarding the funeral procedures e.g. death certificate, removal of body, etc Assistance with funeral or cremation arrangements Assistance with getting a death certificate Referrals to a pathologist, psychologist, psychiatrist or special counselling, if required (particularly with the loss of a child). OPTIONAL ADD-ON BENEFITS • Funeral Cover: this policy gives the options to also cover the principal life assured’s: • Immediate family – This is the spouse of the principal life assured and a maximum of 5 children; • Wider family – these are grandparents, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nephews, brothers, etc; • Parents – biological or legal guardians and parents-in-law. • Defined Debility Cover: this benefit pays out a percentage of the total cover amount if the principal life assured or their spouse, if covered for this benefit, becomes disabled. The amount paid depends on the seriousness of the debility. • Escalations: this benefit makes sure that all policy benefits remain valuable in the future. At the beginning of the policy, there is an option to have your monthly premiums and cover increased at the end of every policy year What are the qualifying periods? A period during which, if the insured event happens and you submit and claim, it will not be paid. This period starts when cover starts.
